In Still a Young Man Elizabeth is scarred by her past and has several personal roadblocks to overcome before she can find true happiness. In Pride and Prejudice, it’s Darcy’s letter to Elizabeth that has her realizing the error in her judgments. Similarly, in Still a Young Man, it is Darcy’s letter to Elizabeth that makes her realize the effect holding on to the past is having in her life.
Listen in and discover three lessons Elizabeth carries out in order to find true happiness.
I know whenever I read Pride and Prejudicie I am always reminded that I really should not judge people on first impressions or even appearances. Sometimes, I think it is easy to dismiss people simply by their looks and not taking a moment to find out what lies beneath. But I don’t know about their past and what obstacles they have overcome. I am also forever being challenged to be more content and grateful for what I have (because I am truly blessed), become a better parent and wife, and learn to show more compassion towards others.

One of the things I have learned from Elizabeth is to try and look at all sides of an issue. If I'm irrated with someone I need to stop and think from all sides of the situtaion. To look at through their eyes, to see if I've misjudged something. Which all comes back to not judging people too quickly! Not that I'm always good at it but it's something strive for! :)
ReplyDeleteYes, Candy! Sometimes it is easier to only see our side, especially if we are irritated or angry. I think this is a great thing to strive for. Thanks for sharing. :)
DeleteOne of the biggest lessons I have learned was about revenge - as a kid, of course, that's all I've wanted from people I thought 'wronged' me. I'm always grateful for novels that show the repercussions of revenge. Be careful of what you wish for! Just reading about Lydia 'lording' her triumph over her sisters gives me pause about sportsmanship & behavior.
ReplyDeleteI'm forever grateful for Charlotte's Web, Where the Red Fern Grows and Bridge to Terabitha. They taught me as a kid that it is okay to mourn a loss. I can be angry, resentful, hurt, and that's normal.
Great post!
What great lessons you have learned, Angie! You are right, it is okay to be angry, resentful, and hurt, and it's normal. Oh, and sportsmanship is what we are getting into right now with the boy. He gets so upset when he loses at something.
DeleteThank you so much for sharing these things, Angie! I alway look forward to hearing your thoughts! :)
Great video review. I loved your take on the lessons that Elizabeth had to learn and how they led to her accepting Darcy's love. Sometimes we don't see the trail of baggage that we're pulling behind us. Elizabeth had to cut those bags free, one at a time.
ReplyDeleteYou are correct. Sometimes we do not see the trail of baggage we are pulling behind us. I did enjoy watching Elizabeth cut each one free! :)Thanks for stopping by Gayle!
