What Are YOU Reading This Summer?

It is official. Summer is here! =) With Memorial Day past, it is time to break out those white shoes (though I am told in the South it is okay to wear them after Easter.- Something I still can’t bring myself to do), tank tops, sunscreen and summer reading!

I am always looking for a great summer book to read while the children and I are outside. For me, the perfect summer reads are books that are light, fluffy, and require little to no thinking. Books that are just fun and relaxing- where I can just open the book, be transported and live in the story.

  1. I can't wait to read Code Name Verity. I'm saving it for my camping trip. :)

I think anything by Jill Mansell would make a great summer read.

    1. Oh, Anna! I have not read any of Jill Mansell's books yet, however, I know that once I start I will become addicted and need to read them all! ;) They all look so fun and her covers are beautiful & fun! Have fun camping! Where are you going? Camper or tent? I'm a camper girl if I have to choose someplace other than a hotel! ;)

  2. I love Sophie Kinsella books, and they make great light summery reads. I have Jill Mansell on my shelf, need to read 'em... I also LOVE to read Tolkien over the summer. I don't know why, but every other summer I seem to find myself picking up the Hobbit & LOTR :o) But hands-down, the way I know it's officially summer is when I crack open Sarah Dessen. Her novels ARE summer to me :o)

    1. Rebecca, hopefully someday I will get around to reading both Kinsella's and Mansell's books. I have a feeling I will enjoy them and need to read them all once I start! Thanks so much for sharing! :) I hope you get plenty of reading in this summer!

  3. A weekend with Mr. Darcy is definitly on my list for this summer, as is her other in the Trilogy - have read "The Perfect Hero" so far and loooved that! The Runaway Actress is waiting on my nightstand as well.
Trisha Ashleys new book "Chocolate Shoes and Wedding Blues" is one I definitly want to read as well! Read so far two of her novels and loved both of them ("Twelve days of Christmas" is my new "read every year before x-mas"-book!).
And Talli Rolands new novel Contruct a Couple - sequel to Build a Man is coming out on kindle on Wednesday - can´t wait to read that!

Other than that a lot is going to be MA thesis related :D.

    2. Katrin, I will like to know what you think about The Runaway Actress. I have been wondering about that one. Ooh, Chocolate Shoes and Wedding Blues?! Sounds interesting! Might have to look into this one. Oh, and I love Christmas reads too! I will have to look up Twelve Days of Christmas and see if I should add it to my Christmas reading list for this year! Thanks so much for the wonderful book suggestions! Happy reading! :)

    3. Well, and I came across a bookstore yesterday and walked out with P.D.James "Death comes to Pemberley".I read a little into it in the store and just had to take it home with me ;). So another summer read.

And I´ll share my views of The Runaway Actress when I´ve read it.
Please do take a look at Twelve days of Christmas, I´d love to sometime hear what you think of it.

  4. The covers for all these books are so enticing! So summery!

I'm trying to think of other Austenesque novels that are good summer reads - I suppose My Jane Austen Summer is ideal for summer reading (it wasn't my favorite though), Northanger Alibi (YA) is about summer vacation, and so is Mr. Darcy Goes Overboard (YA).

Ones I love are Echoes of Pemberley, and the one I just finished, All Roads Lead to Austen! One is a beautiful coming-of-age story that takes place during the summer, the other is a travel memoir that can satiate your need to "get away!"

I look forward to seeing what you read this summer, Jakki!

  5. Jakki, thank you for including some of my books on your list!!!

I, too, have loved Maria Geraci's novels -- she's both a friend and a wonderful writer :). I've also really enjoyed books by Pamela Morsi and Susan Wiggs. They both have some great stories for summer and for all seasons!
