I am so excited to share with you a new feature I will be doing on my blog! I will be vlogging (posting video blogs)! You may be wondering what I will be vlogging. Good question! Accompanying each review, I will post a video where I talk about particular aspects of each novel that stuck out to me. When I read, there are always things I want to say that I just can’t seem to put into a review without it being 700 words long. Being the selfless person I am, I decided to save you the torture of reading a long post, and to take that one thing from a book I can’t seem to get out of my mind, or that really hit home to me, and talk about it in a video.
If you read my review, you know I have a soft spot for Nate Morgan. While I believe there is only one man for Elizabeth, Mr. Darcy, I like Nate Morgan and would like to see him happily settled, just with another woman. Enjoy my thoughts on Nate Morgan, villain.
I hope you enjoy my first video.

My favorite likeable hero would have to be Spike from Buffy the Vampire Slayer. Sexy, dangerous, funny, great accent - he's the total package. Whomever they are, they have to be relatable somehow. That's what makes movies like Pulp Fiction and Silemce of the Lambs work so well.
ReplyDeleteI can't think of any literary villains at the top of my head. All the ones I like get 'reformed' in some small way. Spike doesn't count, because I loved him before he got his soul back. :-)
Although I don't watch Buffy, from your description, Angie, Spike sounds like the perfect "likable Villain." There does seem to be a good number that get "reformed" in a small way, huh?
DeleteI really have the hots for Captain Morgan, the buy who plays in the whiskey commercials.
ReplyDeleteLol! What about the Dox Equis guy?
DeleteActually, he creeps me out. He's always with these really young girls. I meant to say "guy" not "buy." One of these days I'll remember to proofread before hitting "publish."
DeleteJakki - I love your video review. Good for you for being brave enough to do it. I think you're going to start a trend!
ReplyDeleteThanks, Susan! It is a little scary putting oneself out there for all the world to criticize, but that is what authors do each time they publish a new book. I cannot imagine being an author with all the unknowns and vulnerability that comes with it.
DeleteGreat job, Jakki! You're brave! It does make you wonder in the back of your mind what it would have been like if Nate and Lizzy had met earlier.
ReplyDeleteMy favorite likeable (and lickable! Lol) villain is Damon from the Vampire Diaries (not necessarily from the books but def the show). Sometimes it seems like he's reformed and other times, not so much, and it's hard to say which one is better!
I do also have a little thing for Henry Crawford.
Hahaha! Don't tell anyone, but I wouldn't mind entering into a flirtation with William Elliot or Willoghby. ;) I wouldn't want it to go any further than that, but it might be fun banter!
ReplyDeleteThat was so impressive, Jakki! I love all the nice little touches like having the banners and cover of the book appear! What a wonderful first vlog! You know how I feel about Nate, and the excerpt you chose perfectly shows why.
ReplyDeleteI gave it some thought and here are 5 of my all-time favorite villains (from fiction, movies, and Disney!)
1. Captain Barbossa (POTC)
2. Davy Jones (POTC)
3. Dracula from Dracula, My Love by Syrie James
4. Magneto (x-men series)
5. Maleficent (The Sleeping Beauty)
It was fun to discuss this! Thanks!
Thanks, Meredith! :) I purchased Dracula, My Love a few months back. Looking forward to reading it more now! Waiting until this fall though. That is a great list! Thanks so much for sharing!
DeleteYes, I like Magneto as well.
DeleteLove it! The passage you chose makes me want to go back and reread The Journey all over again!!=)
ReplyDeleteDoesn't it, Kelli? Every time I read this passage or watch the video, I think how enjoyable the book was. It is definitely one to be read again.
DeleteJakki, thanks so much for allowing Nate Morgan to be your first vblog villain! I'm sure he would be thrilled to be so honored. You did a fantastic job, and I hope to see many more reviewers follow your example.
ReplyDeleteThank you so much, Jan! It was fun doing it. and I really did enjoy Nate Morgan. Nate reminds me of Iris Johansen's villain, Montalvo in a few of her Eve Duncan books. He is a South American drug lord who kills and such, but when he meets Eve Duncan he will do anything to keep her safe. And he may try to seduce her a bit. While I like Montalvo (and he has a nice body), I do not want him to seduce Eve because she is with Joe Quinn, and readers like him better! Quinn is such a great hero (Jennifer Becton's Mark Vincent reminds me of Joe Quinn).
ReplyDeleteNet Thursday I will be posting my second vlog!
Nate Morgan is one villain that I can't wait to meet. I like him already. Great video review, Jakki!
ReplyDeleteThanks! I hope you like him! I find I am just a girl who is easily taken in by some smooth and well placed phrases. ;)
DeleteI admire you for starting the video review. That is an awesome idea and I enjoyed your video. I will be looking forward to your next one.
ReplyDeleteNate is such a neat villain. I didn't want him to succeed either but his interests definitely added to the tensions of Darcy and Elizabeth and gave extra spark to their times alone in room and the cave! :) I loved the book too.
Hey, JT! Yes, the tension between Darcy and Elizabeth and the extra spark Nate added was great! I loved the jealous Darcy in the the cave. :)
