Spotlight: Almost Persuaded: Miss Mary King by P O Dixon +Giveaway

How many of you are like me and have often wondered what exactly happened between Mr. Wickham and Miss Mary King to make her father send her to live with relatives in Liverpool? What exactly did Miss King think about the charming yet deceitful Mr. Wickham? What would her feelings be if she were to learn the truth of his character? Would she be grieved or relieved? P O Dixon explores these questions and many more in her short story, Almost Persuaded: Miss Mary King.

HAVE YOU EVER SUFFERED MISGUIDED LOVE?

Life does not always offer "Happily Ever After" endings. Or does it?

This engaging short story follows Miss Mary King's search for love. What she finds may or may not be what she wants as she eventually discovers, but will it be precisely what she needs?

Mary admired George Wickham from the moment she first set eyes on him. Handsome and charismatic, he satisfied her every notion of what a consummate gentleman ought to be. She longed to garner his affection.

He, on the other hand, never once looked her way. What happens when Mary becomes the heiress of ten thousand pounds? As the adage goes, be careful what you wish for.

Will Mary learn the meaning of this sentiment the hard way?

  1. With the romantic heart that I have I always hoped for a true love match for Miss King. As she is not more mentioned in the book I hoped that she is a sweet, nice girl, not a Caroline Bingley-type (she could have ended up w Wickham, couldn´t she - but also for Caroline Bingley I pefer a better ending then marriage to Wickham - something like Jennifer Bectons Caroline Bingley).
So I´d love to read a book about her regaining strenght after Wickham is gone and about finding THE one and only for her. Cheesy. But that´s it :).

    1. Thanks for stopping by, Vesper. I agree, and it will be interesting to see just what it will take for Miss King to see Wickham's true character.

  3. It's fortunate that Miss Mary King was saved from a bad marriage to Wickham but like so many others before her, she does not see it that way until her eyes are truly opened to his deceits. I hope there is someone that will value and love her for who she is, not for her inheritance. Liverpool will do her some good since society there is larger than at Meryton.

  5. I do wonder what prompted Mary's removal to Liverpool - did Wickham try something with her? Did she or her family see or overhear Wickham scheming? Do tell! I imagine it wouldn't take Wickham much time at a to blow through £10K.

    1. A man of his ilk will have little difficulty blowing 10K, indeed! What, maybe less than a fortnight? ;)
Only one way to get your answers though, Monica! Better read the story. ;)

  7. What a neat idea for a story! I must admit that I've never really thought about Miss King, but I'm always looking for unique takes on the characters hidden in the background of Austen's novels.

  8. This is a unique twist to our favorite P&P characters. Miss King was only a conversation, but definitely worth exploring. I am intrigued.
