October is Paranormal and Mystery Month!!

I wanted to announce that this October Leatherbound Reviews will be celebrating a paranormal & mystery month!! During this month, each review will be either an Austenesque paranormal or mystery! I am excited about this opportunity to expand my readings of paranormal literature. To date, I have only read Mr. Darcy's Bite by Mary Simonsen (which I totally recommend, by the way), so adding another paranormal book or two to my list will be a fun new adventure for me.

I recently finished Pulse and Prejudice by Colette Saucier, so be looking for that review in a few days. Last night I started reading Murder on the Bride's Side by Tracy Kiely. Last year I read Murder at Longbourn, the first novel in Kiely's mystery series staring Elizabeth Parker, and have since been anxious to read the rest. I have a couple more books I will be reviewing this month, but you will have to stop by in order to find out which ones they are!

Now, I want to know what are some of YOUR favorite paranormals or mysteries?

  1. I haven´t got read ANY paranormal Ausetenesque. And not much mystery.
I have P D James "Death comes to Pemberley" lying on my nightstand waiting to be read, but other then that. And I´m very bad with paranormal and mystery in general. I like a good crime fiction, but still that´s only a couple of times a year I read one.
And since we in Austria don´t originally have Halloween (now we do, but kids don´t know where it comes from and what it means, which is annyoing) I didn´t grow up with the custom and am a rather scared person of things like that ;).

But I´m looking forward to reading your reviews and maybe finding some paranormal and mystery readings for my list after all.

    1. Thanks, Katrin! I really enjoyed Murder at Longbourn, it is a mystery where the heroine loves Jane Austen. Not scary, fun and has a bit of romance in it. :) I will be looking forward to your thoughts this month! :)

    3. And, yes, I´m not a Halloween-person, but your halloween-blog-design is really really REALLY cute!

If I ever have a blog, I´ll have to convince Angie to do my blogdesign as well :D ;).

  2. Ahhh! I love the halloween-y stuff in your banner! SO clever! I think I'm definitely more into Austenesque mysteries than Austenesque paranormals...Though the more recent paranormal mash-ups are definitely good!

My favorite mystery - Murder at Longbourn by Tracy Kiely and The Intrigue at Highbury by Carrie Bebris (it's a tie!)

My favorite paranormal - Austentatious by Alyssa Goodnight (if that counts), if not Mr. Darcy's Bite by Mary Simonsen

    Looking forward to your reviews!

    1. Meredith, Carrie Bebris is on my list to read, but unfortunately it might take me some time to get to her. I have heard great things about her works! While I don't consider it a paranormal, I can see how you would, but I LOVE Austentatious! :) I think this will be a fun new month for me!

  3. Its funny you mentioned Murder at Longbourn - I'm reading that one right now and am enjoying it!

Another favorite is Pride and Prejudice and Zombies. It is such an off-beat story, that it is pretty good and way 'out there'!Picture Lizzy with a katana and ninja stars :)

    1. Oh, Susied, I just loved Murder at Longbourn! Glad to hear you are enjoying it as well! I have not read P&P & Zombies, but I have heard many mixed reviews about it. Now picturing Lizzy with ninja stars does sound different! ;)

  4. For paranormal, I've read Mr. Darcy's Bite by Mary Simonsen and Vampire Darcy's Desire by Regina Jeffers, both are really great!!

For mysteries, I've read The Phantom of Pemberley and The Disappearance of Georgiana Darcy both by Regina Jeffers and both excellent!

I need to read a new one for this year JA Spinoff Challenge on goodreads and for that I have Pride and Prescience by Carrie Bebris. I better get on that!! The year is quickly coming to a close and I still have a few genres to complete there!!

    1. Candy, I have heard such great things about Regina Jeffers's Vampire Darcy's Desire and The Disappearance of Georgiana Darcy! I must get around to reading them sometime!
Yes, this year is flying by, but don't they all? I can't believe it is October!

  5. I like your little blog-lady's Halloween outfit!
    ;)

I just got Pulse&Prejudice so I'll definitely be reading that this month. I also liked Mr Darcy's Bite and Vampire Darcy's Desire. I read P&P&Zombies but didn't really like it; I think mostly because it used too much of the original P&P text. I kept skimming to get to the "new" parts.

I like Carrie Bebris's mystery series a lot. No vampires or creatures but a bit of the supernatural. Plus they mix up characters from all the books, so that's fun. Regina's mysteries are great, too.

    1. Howdy, Monica! Thanks, the blog lady is cute, isn't she? (Thanks, Angie)!
Mixing up characters from all of the books sounds fun! I really need to get on reading some of Carrie Bebris's books! The library has them all...better go pay my fine so I can check out some more books! ;)

  6. I've only read fan fiction along these lines, nothing published except for P&P&Zombies, and I found myself skipping to the new bits like Monica, so I'll be very interested to see your reviews.

    1. Hi Ceri! I haven't read any fan-fiction in a long time, but I am looking forward to expanding my list of paranormals and mysteries this month! I am anxious to discover what I like and don't like about each genre. I know I love a good mystery though! Hope you will find some that might suit your taste!
