Review: Legacy by Robin Helm + Giveaway!!!

From the Publisher:
In Legacy, the third volume of The Guardian Trilogy, a Christian fantasy fiction series, Darcy and Elizabeth begin their family and continue to travel the globe with SoulFire ministries, attempting to foil the schemes of Lucifer and his son, Gregory. Gregory seeks to increase his power and prestige in his quest for domination of the United States, the world, and ultimately, the universes. Light and dark forces fight on both the physical and spiritual planes, heading inevitably toward the final, epic battle.

At the end of SoulFire, readers are left on the edge of their seats dying to know what will happen between Darcy and Elizabeth. In Legacy, readers are immediately submersed into the action, as Darcy and Elizabeth must overcome hurdles threatening their relationship. In the third novel of The Guardian Trilogy, we join Darcy, Elizabeth and the rest of the SoulFire team as they band together to stop Gregory Wickham from forcing God’s hand in bringing about the end times. Upon entering the political arena, with the aspiration of becoming the next President of America and world leader, Gregory appears prouder, cockier, and more conceited than before. Will this help him achieve his goal or will it lead to his downfall?

Contrasting Gregory’s malignant ways are Darcy and Elizabeth’s relationship with God as well as each other. Here, Robin Helm paints a picture for readers of not only how one’s relationship should be with God, but also how a relationship as a couple could, and should, be. Darcy and Elizabeth continually seek God in all things, enabling them to leave behind an amazing legacy. I found these scenes to be motivating for me in my own marriage. I was left asking myself, how often do I really seek God’s help in becoming a better wife?

There are several facets of Helm’s writing that I am fond of. I mentioned in my review of SoulFire that the banter between the angels, Michael, Gabriel, and Niall, is amusing and so well placed that it helps give a bit of comic relief to the serious topic addressed in these novels. Helm also reinforces the story she developed with scripture, giving it a greater depth and better understanding of the promises given to us by God. After completing the trilogy, it is clear the plot was meticulously planned. Events and circumstances from Guardian and SoulFire are brought back to the reader’s mind, clarifying why certain incidents took place and how the Lord is able to use them, even characters’ mistakes, for His good.

While I found Legacy entertaining and uplifting, there were times when I felt the author’s exposition went into too much description. At one point, I found myself skimming over the task of bringing home groceries and a list of what furniture was purchased for particular rooms. There is so much more going on in the story; I just wanted to get to the action. Once I finally reached the apex, I found myself not ready for the tension, or the story, to end. Considering how long it took to get there, the denouement was a bit rushed.

I utterly enjoyed The Guardian Trilogy! I found the entire series to be inspirational, uplifting, moving, thought provoking, challenging, and last but not least, romantic! I will definitely be recommending this series to Pride and Prejudice fans along with those who enjoy Christian fiction.

    1. Oh, June, I hope you give it a try. :) One thing I am learning with reviewing books is that often times when I am skeptical of a book, but decide to read it for one reason or another, I am shocked to find out I actually like the book! My horizons are continually expanding...I guess that is the power of the written word! :)

  7. This series is one that I can see myself re-reading lots and lots of times. I'm looking forward to reading it all start to finish, to see how it may be different than reading a chapter a week for a zillion million weeks. Lol Not that I didn't enjoy getting to know Robin more each week. I know bits have been added since I read but I do remember wishing for some more Darcy family moments.

  8. Enjoyed reading your review, Jakki. Its concept is unique and interesting for me as it combines plots and characters from P&P and Christian inspirational fiction. If not for Elizabeth and Darcy, I may not venture into this genre so kudos to Robin for penning this trilogy.

  9. I love the combination of christian inspirational fiction and P&P. Going to be interesting how Jane Austen fits together with ministry (which isn´t such a strange thought at all).

    1. Hi Katrin! I found it to be very inspirational and challenging (in a good way). I really took a step back and asked myself how I can be a better wife. It's amazing what a little prayer can do and how it can change things! :)
