Vlog: Mercy's Embrace: So Rough A Course +GIVEAWAY!!!

Admiral Patrick McGillvary is a man used to getting what he wants. Elizabeth Elliot is not one to notice those beneath her station in life.

Here we are at the jewelers in Bath where McGillvary is purchasing his daughter a present when in walks the beautiful Miss Elliot.

Being one to love the chase, is McGillvary going to forget Elizabeth or rise to the challenge of getting her to notice him? Will Elizabeth allow herself to be seen with such a man?

    2. Candy, beware. These books are an escapist time sink, or so readers tell me. Do you have a trip to the beach planned? A shady hammock---away from cooking and housework---waiting?

Jakki's done such a nice job with this. (I was camping in Yellowstone, and while our campground had WiFi, it was in high demand and was slow as molasses! So I couldn't watch this until today!) What a sport Jakki is to avoid spoilers!

  2. A little inside the history of fan fiction for those who care. This scene was originally written for the multi-volume Love Suffers Long by Laura Hile and moi. We talked incessantly how she was going to introduce Patrick and have him meet Elizabeth Elliot. I thought she had settled on them meeting one way and didn't know anything about this scene until it was posted. It was so good, particularly because there are just glimpses of real meeting to come.

While I would love to say I write the best Persuasion fan fic around, I have to concede that Mercy's Embrace makes that impossible.

    1. Do not listen to Susan Kaye. I was the absolute rookie writer in Love Suffers Long and is Kind, and her Persuasion fan fic is much better than mine. (Hers is heartfelt and romantic, while mine is more of a romp.) And nobody writes Frederick Wentworth as well as she does. Nobody, not even Jane.

      Just sayin' :)

  3. Oh fantastic reading! Makes me want to go read it again, right now! "Ignored? Women - married or otherwise - never ignored him!" LOL!

Thanks for sharing that history about this scene, Susan! I'm very curious to read Love Suffers Long one day! Both you and Laura write such fantastic Persuasion fan fic! Now if only we could find someone to do the same for S&S or Mansfield Park!

  4. Meredith, I just love the line you quoted! It is very Patrick McGillvary! ;)

Susan, thank you so much for sharing the history behind that scene! Was Love Suffers Long ever published? Or was this before Laura wrote Mercy's Embrace? I am sure it is wonderful! :)

  5. LSL has a long and shadowy history. It just celebrated it's 13th anniversary being in the public eye on the 4th. Anyway, the short answer is, no, LSL is not published in the sense of editing and all that high falootin' stuff. We had crazy visions of giving it a good scrub and then putting it out as an ebook. What we found is both of us are perfectionists and just cleaning up the manuscript was impossible. We both itched to rewrite all over the place.

Anyway, you can read it HERE. All gazillion fun-filled pages!

  6. McGillvary has a daughter? Is he married and then became a widower or not? You had me on tenterhooks.

Susan, I just read the first chapter of LSL and will continue to read the other chapters.

    1. Luthien, I guess you will just have to read Mercy's Embrace to find out! ;) *insert evil laugh* ;) I really do love this scene!
      Have a wonderful weekend! :)

    2. Thank you for reading LSL, Luthien. There are lots of bits of rocky writing particularly on my part, but there is an energy and enthusiasm you can only put on the page when you're a newbie.

I hope you enjoy the story. There's plenty of it to be had!

    3. Susan Kaye wrote Frederick's side of the story, LĂșthien, and I wrote Anne's. I did swipe material for the published Mercy's Embrace. My very favorite hero graces Love Suffers Long's pages: Commander James Benwick. Gotta love that man.

    4. Sorry, I didn't answer your question. McGillvary has been a widower for three years by the time we meet him.

  8. Ok, I'm a little tardy to this party, but I'm here! Lol My first thought was "aww, he has a daughter?" I don't know why. I guess I just like the idea of a great single dad, which I'm assuming he is. I'm interested to see how Elizabeth takes to the little girl.

Great job, Jakki! I'm on my way to read vlog #2.

    1. Thanks, Monica! :) I'm with you on liking a great single dad, and seeing how the heroine takes to his child/children.
